Hi everyone! 🙂 I’ve got a small post for you today.
I’ve been wanting for some time to visit the cathedral of Palermo and walk the rooftop, and it has finally happened! After a relaxing day spent in the city, Jacob and I were in no hurry, and just strolled around the streets, enjoyed some people-watching. We spent maybe the first couple of hours browsing shops, buying some necessities….(I did drop by Sephora and may have bought some items that weren’t totally necessary.) haha. There may be a post on what I got later ;).
A bit before five o’clock we made our way to the cathedral and started our climb up the stone steps of a minaret to the rooftop. (Rooftop viewing happens once every hour) Coming onto the rooftop was breath-taking. With the city spreading out around the cathedral, you can spot the dome-tops of other churches in the distance and view the magnificent surrounding mountain range.
Jacob and I went up with only a handful of other people, and were left to wander and explore at our own pace. We stayed, possibly to the guard’s dismay, for a little extra time to snap up some shots with no one in the way.
(Though the guard had the uncanny ability to come and stand front and centre to the dome I was trying to get a picture with. haha.)
I’d recommend anyone who comes to Palermo, even if for just a couple of days to come visit the cathedral and see the city from above.
I will be in Palermo for a while more, so if anyone has recommendations on places to see please drop me a comment, I’d love to see what other hidden gems are here.
